This annual report details statistics relating to the caseload in the magistrates' courts in Victoria, Australia, during 1991.
Abstract
The first table presents statistical measures of penalties imposed by the magistrates' courts during the reporting period. The penalties, in terms of imprisonment, fine, or unpaid community work, are shown for each offense in the criminal code. The second figure tabulates statistics regarding suspended sentences imposed by the courts. A detailed chart presents figures on penalties imposed, based on principal offenses. Another section deals with the disposition of offense and type of penalty imposed for each charged offense. The final section of the main report documents which offenses result in the loss of a motor vehicle license. The appendixes include an index, a list of courts participating in the Statewide computer system, "Courtlink," and lists of selected Victorian legislation and regulations. 4 appendixes
