This information should assist those involved with textile fiber examinations to maintain an adequate and current collection of fiber reference standards. A total of 281 fibers are listed. An examination of the distribution of the generic types from among the samples listed shows that polyesters (37.2 percent) have a clear majority. They are followed by acrylics (12.2 percent), polyamides (10.4 percent), mod-acrylics (7.9 percent), olefins (7.2 percent), and celluslosics (6.8 percent) from the major generic classes. Other types contribute 18.3 percent, of which the majority are aramids (27 percent), bicomponents (19 percent), and chlorofibers (6.4 percent). By a substantial margin, the country responsible for the introduction of most new fiber types during this period was Japan (41.9 percent). The United States came second with 16.1 percent. The leading European producers were Great Britain (10.0 percent), Germany (9.6 percent), Italy (5.3 percent), and France (2.0 percent). Various other countries, mainly European, contributed the remaining 14.3 percent.
