Abstract
The National Center for State Courts is an instrument of the Nation's State courts. More than half of its funds derive, directly or indirectly, from the State courts. The recessionary economy has hurt State judicial budgets which has in turn impacted the National Center for State Courts as well. In the last 2 years, the Center's revenue has decreased by $1 million. Yet the Center has avoided operating deficits in 1990 and 1991 without terminating any major area of service. This has been achieved through reductions in overhead budgets, restricted hiring, a salary freeze, and other cost-cutting measures. The listing of 1991 projects and programs is presented under the categories of research projects, information services, educational programs and conferences, and direct and technical assistance. Other report sections outline the Center's 20 years of service to the courts, provide financial information, list awards, and profile Center organization and staff.
