Abstract
The manual is intended to be used alone or as the basis for a training course. It details the major issues faced by persons with disabilities when dealing with the police, the needs of disabled citizens caused by crime and the fear of crime, actions that police and disabled persons can take to reduce their victimization risk, and resources available to these citizens. Individual sections review each major type of disability and their implications for situations involving the police. Included are hearing impairments, mobility impairments, visual impairments, communication impairments, mental illness, and mental retardation.
