This 1991 conference, sponsored by the National Institute of Justice and the Bureau of Justice Assistance, brought criminal justice officials and researchers together to focus on drug control initiatives.
Abstract
Plenary sessions of the conference examined State and local drug control experiences, as well as drug program evaluation at the Federal level. Conference panel sessions dealt with drug enforcement in public housing, drug case management, alternative approaches to drug task force development, making drug users accountable, drug treatment programs, State drug control strategies, law enforcement drug task forces, drug treatment programs, and drug policing techniques. Panel sessions also examined community responses to drug abuse, intensive supervision programs for drug offenders, asset seizure and forfeiture, neighborhood-based drug prevention, shock incarceration, drug prevention and education programs, street-level drug strategies, drug testing of criminal offenders, and national and State indicators of drug use and control. Conference workshop participants discussed various facets of drug program evaluation. Appendixes contain the conference agenda and a list of speakers and participants.
