There have been three stages to the work of the Queens Road Neighborhood and Youth Activities Project which strives to make the area safer and to reduce juvenile crime: make local contacts, obtain youth and community resources, and provide activities for young people. Funding was obtained to hire a youth worker who has organized a variety of activities for neighborhood youth such as ice-skating, swimming, visits to youth clubs, canoeing, educational trips, and videomaking. Twenty volunteers support the work of two, full-time staff and help run the youth club and other activity groups. Project success is due primarily to the project's neighborhood base and its active involvement of residents and youth in program planning. 1 table
