This compilation of legal ethics opinions for prosecutors of the Virginia State Bar consists of legal opinions and disciplinary rules concerning nine canons, seven of which are included in this manual (canons three and six are excluded).
Abstract
The first canon is that lawyers should assist in maintaining the integrity and competence of the legal profession. Canon two is that a lawyer should assist the legal profession in fulfilling its duty to make legal counsel available. The fourth canon holds that a lawyer should preserve the confidence and secrets of his client. Under the fifth canon, a lawyer should exercise independent professional judgment on behalf of a client. The next canon postulates that a lawyer should represent a client zealously within the bounds of the law. The final two canons state that a lawyer should assist in improving the legal system and should avoid even the appearance of impropriety, respectively. The manual includes a request form for legal ethics opinions.
