The report identifies a wide range of issues which need to be addressed to improve the State of New York's response to rape, sexual assault, and child abuse.
Abstract
On the basis of extensive review of the impact of the crimes of rape, sexual assault, and child sexual abuse on the lives and future of all New Yorkers, the Governor's Task Force on Rape and Sexual Assault concurred that more services for victims are critically needed and that adequate and stable funding is integral to any plan of action the State chooses to deal with these crimes. The Task Force also identified several other issues: the need for public education to change attitudes, the need for training, changes in the legal system, development of victim services and services for victims of child abuse, a strengthening of the family and criminal court responses to child victims, coordination in the planning and delivery of services for victims and for sex offenders, and treatment for sex offenders. 158 footnotes, 5 tables, and 13 appendixes
