Abstract
Chapters on current issues in child trauma address children's rights, newborn abductions from hospitals, memory, cognition and childhood trauma, a diagnostic category for child sexual victimization, and juvenile prostitution. Five chapters on research in child sexual abuse discuss HIV transmission by child sexual abuse, the assessment of sexually exploited children for their competency to testify in a trial, the stress responses of children and parents to sexual abuse and ritualistic abuse in day care centers, and parental response to child-sexual-abuse trials that involve day care settings. Five chapters on treatment interventions and prevention programs for child sexual abuse report on a systematic investion of resilient peer training, a treatment to improve the social effectiveness of maltreated children; intergenerational family processes in the treatment of incest; family-focused intervention for extrafamilial child sexual abuse; sexual abuse prevention programs for children; and the development of a child sexual abuse curriculum for college students and child-care professionals. Chapters on perpetrators of child sexual abuse consider research on juvenile sex offenders, incest in the childhood development of serial rapists, a cost-benefit analysis of the rehabilitation of child molesters, serial child molesters and abductors, and juvenile murderers.
