This guide provides information on Federal grants available for anti-drug and anti-alcohol programs operated by State and local governments, community nonprofit organizations, treatment agencies, schools and colleges, medical researchers, police and sheriffs departments, and volunteer groups. The grants are available from the approximately 40 Federal agencies involved to some extent in the war on drugs; this guide also includes programs that may be used for anti-drug activities, even though that may not be their primary focus.
Abstract
The overview section discusses recent anti-drug legislation, existing Federal alcohol and drug abuse programs, relevant funding issues, and the U.S. government's new "weed and seed" drug strategy. Federal agencies who have funds available for anti-drug programs include the Department of Education; the Department of Health and Human Services; the Office of Justice Programs, National Institute of Corrections, and Asset Forfeiture Fund of the Department of Justice; the State Justice Institute; the Drug Czar and Clearinghouses; Action and other Federal volunteer agencies; the Transportation Department; and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The guidelines also cover drug-free workplace requirements, drug-free schools and communities requirements, denial of Federal benefits to drug traffickers and possessors, the public housing asset forfeiture program, and State anti-drug contacts.
