Abstract
The authors believe that the existing methods of treatment and control have been inadequate in improving drug-related problems. The papers contained here cover a wide range of drugs and of social and individual problems; the spread of HIV infection is considered in some detail. Various chapters describe current theories and practices that have helped to minimize the harmful effects of drugs, national and city-level strategies toward drug problems, and drug policies of international agencies and organizations including police, doctors, community groups, and local authorities. 15 tables and 4 figures
