The book introduces three basic types of books that can be written for a child: books that describe the situation, define the child's feelings, and/or make a general and empathic statement. Subsequent chapters (1) describe illustration techniques and ways to adjust the level of the book's complexity to the age of the child; (2) identify approaches to focus on feelings of tension in the family and a child's sense of neglect; (3) explain how to write longer stories as well as stories to help children face various developmental stages; (4) discuss the family as a source of comfort and support during times of illness and loss; (5) focus on the consequences of divorce; and (6) encourage new adaptations. The final chapter addresses ways to overcome problems that may arise in the process of creating these storybooks.
