Written mainly as a guide for men, this manual explains the differences between healthy and abusive interpersonal and sexual relationships and provides self-assessments and instructions on how to recognize and avoid sexually abusive behavior and acquaintance rape.
Abstract
The manual is also intended for use by women, parents, and others seeking information about the dynamics of sexual relationships and ways to prevent sexual abuse. It lists the 20 rights supported by the Family Violence Network for people in dating relationships. It also asks readers to complete a 15-item questionnaire to determine their own attitudes regarding sexual activity involving physical or psychological pressures. Further sections explain healthy sexual attitudes, the difference between mutual sex and sexual abuse, types of pressure and abuse, and the psychological impacts of sexual assault. Guidelines are given for preventing pressured sex and acquaintance rape by using appropriate communication, empathy, and avoidance. List of 13 recommended readings
