This handbook presents a science of technical fighting and self-defense that deconditions the body's reflexes that make it vulnerable under physical attack and conditions it to perform effective defensive and offensive responses.
Abstract
The book first describes instinctive bodily movements in response to a physical attack that make the body vulnerable to further injury. Succeeding chapters then profile the reconditioning of bodily movements that promote effective self-defense. Tools for retraining reflexes in the interest of self-defense are described, and offensive weapons available in the upper body and lower body are reviewed. One chapter on defensive movements addresses "slipping," which involves defensive maneuvers that do not rely on the hands or other body parts to interfere with the course of the blow. Another chapter on defensive movements focuses on "formula blocking," which involves specific and progressive patterns for blocking blows. A chapter on the training of the body's offensive weapons encompasses mirror training, upper body practice sequences, lower body practice sequences, heavy-bag training, power training, and speed training. The concluding chapter explains how, with the use of a training partner, the defensive and offensive training is applied in a combat situation. Numerous illustrative drawings are provided to illustrate the defensive and offensive movements.
