This manual is designed to aid law enforcement trainers in California in developing an appropriate lesson plan to cover the six performance objectives that are related to criminal law and that are contained in the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Basic Course.
Abstract
These objectives include distinguishing between the spirit of the law and the letter of the law, defining 21 terms related to criminal law, determining whether an incident is a civil matter or a criminal matter, and determining which of four mental states can be legally inferred from the acts of the perpetrator. Other objectives are to identify the parties in a crime as principals, accessories, or accomplices and to determine whether or not entrapment has occurred.
