The first section reviews Canadian laws which deal with elder abuse and some of the benefits and drawbacks the laws pose in the search for solutions to the problem of elder abuse. Descriptions of existing programs and legal services illustrate the practical side to these laws. The next two sections deal with mandatory reporting and guardianship/mental incompetency issues. Separate sections examine the unique situation of abused elders living on and off Indian reservations and other contextual factors of elder abuse including fear among the elderly and victimization in institutional settings. The final sections cover provincial legislation related to the problem of elder abuse, films available for professional and private use, and additional reference materials.
