Santa Clarita, which contracts police services from the proactive and forward-looking Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, has published a compact and nonjudgmental booklet which provides information on issues of concern to teenagers.
Abstract
The "Teen Survival Guide" is written in a simple style and is designed to establish options and expand knowledge without fear of ridicule or punishment. Topics covered in a common sense approach include drug abuse, weapons laws, prostitution, gangs, and sexual abuse. The booklet provides 24-hour hotline numbers to call. Booklet chapters also contain information on getting a job, volunteer opportunities, and recreation. Community response to the booklet has been very positive.
