The purpose of this handbook is to help concerned citizens and nonprofit organizations form and operate an effective agency to serve missing and exploited children and their families.
Abstract
The handbook, developed by more than a dozen experts in the missing and exploited child issue, is designed as a series of instructive essays on the many aspects of building a nonprofit organization. Initial handbook chapters discuss the nonprofit service provider, the needs of missing and exploited children and their families, and service provision. Consideration is given to both missing and runaway children, interviewing and counseling, client intake and registration, cooperation with law enforcement and the legal system, referral and networking, and service monitoring and improvement. Additional handbook chapters look at prevention, education and public awareness, the operation of nonprofit organizations, and legislative advocacy. An appendix contains information and forms associated with missing child case procedures.
