Forty field cases were evaluated by 11 reviewers in an effort to determine the contributions of the cardio, pneumo, and electrodermal measures toward a valid conclusion.
Abstract
Several topics were examined: the validity of individual charts, the validity or the contribution of each channel toward a decision, the validity of each channel with truthful and with deceptive subjects, the validity of each channel by gender, and the utility of each channel in analyzing charts. The findings prove of value in constructing an algorithm to analyze charts regarding the probability of truth or deception. Most of the evaluation criteria have been taught as they are today for over 50 years. When examiners were actually required to evaluate charts identifying each criterion, many of those taught were either not used in evaluation or not seen by examiners as contributing to the correct identification of reactions. 10 tables and 25 references
