This publication identifies alcohol and other drug abuse prevention strategies that have been tried and tested by community-based organizations around the country.
Abstract
The 10 model project case studies presented in this volume include the Abbottsford Crime and Drug Prevention Project in Philadelphia; Alternative Activities for Youth in Berkeley, California; Community Responses to Drug Abuse in Chicago; Comprehensive Community Prevention in Phoenix; Fighting Back! in Washington, DC; the Great Grandville Avenue Graffiti Cover-Up in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Operation P.O.P. in Miami; The Circle Keepers in Clinton, Oklahoma; the Wilmington (Delaware) Cluster Against Substance Abuse; and Youthworks in Salt Lake City. Each case study includes an abstract and a detailed report describing the community characteristics, sponsoring organization, project development process, project resources/funding, impact, and lessons learned. Subsequent sections of the publication outline available Federal and private funding sources, technical assistance providers, and publications.
