This report presents 1991 data on sentencing in the higher criminal courts of Victoria (Australia) for 1991.
Abstract
The first section of the report outlines some of the major legislative changes to Victorian criminal law which may have altered the pattern of sentencing statistics since 1980. This is followed by tables that indicate statistical measures of penalties, the disposition of offenses, penalties imposed for each offense, penalties imposed for each offense, penalties imposed on persons "sentenced" based on principal offense, minimum term as a percentage of effective sentence, persons receiving suspended sentences (original term by portion suspended), persons receiving suspended sentences (operational period by portion of original term suspended, sentencing and dispositions by principal offense, and graphs of sentences imposed.
