This article describes the superiority of the features of the hydraulic bifold vehicle access doors to the rollup gates at vehicle access points for jail facilities.
Abstract
Most American companies that manufacture rollup doors state that they are designed to open and close 30 to 50 times a day. Vehicle doors in correctional facilities, however, must be opened and closed approximately 100-200 times a day. Other disadvantages of rollup doors are their constant need of repair by specially trained technicians, the relatively high cost of repair parts, their occasional descent onto the tops of vehicles, and their slow operation. The hydraulic bifold vehicle access doors, on the other hand, are rated to open and close over 1 million times before they require even routine maintenance. Other advantages of the doors are their rare need for repair, a simple design that enables regular facility maintenance staff to make repairs, readily available parts that are relatively inexpensive, and the presence of sensors that prevent the doors from closing on a vehicle. In addition they open and close much faster than rollups, and hydraulic operators and all accessory controls can be remotely located for security and enhanced service ability. Drawings of the hydraulic bifold doors are provided.
