This guide to open and closed prisons and local gaols in Denmark provides descriptive information on capacity, clients, staff, and programs.

Abstract

The 10 open prisons include the Horserod, Gribskov, Jyderup, Sobysogaard, Renbaek, Mogelkaer, Norre Snede, Sonder Omme, Kaershovedgard, and Kragskovhede State prisons. Closed prisons are located in Copenhagen, Albertslund, Nyborg, Ringe, and Horsens. Most Danish police districts have local goals at their disposal to accommodate prisoners held in custody who are awaiting trial. The guide identifies which prisons house female offenders, full-time and part- time staff, educational and vocational training programs, and special programs such as drug treatment. A description of prison facilities and buildings is also provided.
