The darkroom was built to maximize the flexibility and integration of presently available video equipment and to allow for the possibility of attaching new pieces of equipment. The designers based their plan on a TV surveillance system in which all the electronic components are connected to each other via a video routing switch. A cable channel was installed along the darkroom wall to get maximum integration and to reduce the problem of overlapping wires. All the cameras and monitors are attached to a video routing switch that features 12 inputs and 12 outputs with free choice of combinations. A photophone and color camera were added to the system to allow external communications with passport control and other agencies. The system is easy to operate, offers great versatility in document examination work, and can be used in demonstrations for large visiting groups. 9 figures
