This Scottish Prison Service annual report for 1991-92 presents information on the annual operation of each of the 21 correctional facilities and the coordinating activities of the headquarters office.
Abstract
The mission statement indicates that the mission of the Scottish Prison Service is to keep in custody those committed by the courts, to maintain good order in each prison, to care for prisoners with humanity, and to provide prisoners with a range of opportunities to exercise personal responsibility and to prepare for release. For each prison, information is provided on the courts served and the types of inmates kept in custody. Strategic objectives for 1991-92 are presented for each facility, and the progress toward each of the objectives is described. The 1991-92 achievements of the Scottish Prison Service College are also indicated. The operations of headquarters is presented by directorates, which include the Strategy and Planning Directorate, the Human Resources Directorate, the Finance and Information Systems Directorate, and the Prisons Directorate. The appendixes contain statistics on prison use and occupancy; admissions by type of custody; average daily population by type of custody; offenses and punishments imposed by prisons; employment analysis and market and sales analysis; the average number of adult, young offender, and remand inmates employed daily during the year ending March 31, 1992; expenditure by management function; Scottish Prison Service staff; and escapes and absconds.
