Intended for use in a variety of detention settings, the sample policies and procedures rest on the perspective of a 500-bed county jail housing both male and female inmates ranging from minimum to high security. Where applicable, the housing of juvenile offenders is also included. The guidelines also assume that the institution uses the "direct contact" philosophy and that a unit management system is in place.
