These 11 articles provide recommendations for ways to improve police officer field training programs, present the results of a survey regarding the training and compensation of field training officers, and describe specific programs and a training videotape.
Abstract
Individual papers discuss ways to use field training personnel during a recession when police cadets are not being hired, the formation of the Wisconsin of the National Association of Field Training Officers, and ways to avoid burnout among field training officers. The national survey received responses from 104 police agencies, that provided information on the amounts and types of training provided and the compensation of field training officers. Further papers explain how a police agency newsletter became a useful tool for improving police report writing, review a videotape titled "Courtroom Skills and Tactics," describe the field training program for the New York City transit police, and discuss the procedures for transporting an arrestee from a police department's holding cell to a county jail.
