This report presents data on Crime Index offenses in Wyoming for the first quarter of 1992.
Abstract
The number of Crime Index offenses reported by Wyoming law enforcement agencies during the first quarter of 1992 increased 9.3 percent compared to the same quarter of 1991. Excluding arson, the Crime Index totaled 5,069 offenses during January-March, compared to 4,636 offenses in 1991. A total of 1,807 Index offenses were cleared during this 1992 reporting period, resulting in a clearance rate of 35.7 percent. Collectively, the number of violent Index offenses rose 10.9 percent compared to 1991 figures. Murder decreased 20 percent, with four reported for 1992 compared to five for the period in 1991. Forcible rape and rape attempts rose 14.3 percent with 32 reported compared to 28 in 1991. Robbery showed a 11.8-percent decrease, as 15 were reported compared to 17 for 1991. Aggravated assault rose 12.5 percent for the period. Property crimes as a group rose 9.2 percent with only two categories experiencing an increase this quarter. Arson, a property crime collected apart from the other Index offenses, registered a 15.4-percent decrease with 22 reported instances compared to 26 in 1991. Property stolen incidental to Index offenses totaled $2,518,328 for 1992 compared with $2,139,941 reported stolen during the first quarter of 1991. There were 782 incidents of domestic violence reported for the quarter compared to 648 incidents during this same period in 1991. 6 tables
