The first report notes that despite lack of instruction from the U.S. Department of Education for up to two full years after passage of a law that requires it, thousands of colleges and universities have compiled and disclosed campus crime statistics mandated by the Federal Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act. Even absent Federal guidance, most colleges reported annual crime statistics at the first September 1992 deadline for the new law. The second report profiles a campuswide fiber optic data communications system coupled with advanced monitoring for Boston's Northeastern University. The Comsec proprietary monitoring system has 35 remote terminals units in academic buildings and residence halls to transmit alarm signals to the central monitoring unit. The system uses part of a forward-thinking 24-strand fiber optic data communication system. The third report describes Louisville University's extensive fire/life safety system that simultaneously integrates access control. The Horizon TDX-6000 facility management system made the university's campuswide integration possible.
