This report presents statistical data regarding the prison inmates and parolees in California during 1991.
Abstract
The total correctional population was 200,540, and the institutional population was 101,808 on December 31, 1991. In the last 5 years, the imprisoned population increased an average of 14.2 percent per year. The number of new felon admissions from court decreased from 1990 to 1991, and 54.1 percent of the felon new admissions were under age 30. Violent offenders accounted for 42.3 percent, drug offenders for 24.5 percent, and drunk driving offenders for 2.9 percent of the institutional population in 1991. Felon parolees who were originally committed for drug offenses made up the largest group of parolees, accounting for 33.4 percent. Figures, tables, maps, glossary, and list of offense categories
