The introductory section discusses issues and information related to attorney employment in the Department of Justice: application information, fringe benefits, promotion policy and performance appraisals, experienced attorney employment, the honor program, summer law intern program, and other law student programs. A primary function of the Department of Justice is to represent the Federal Government in court; most of this litigation is performed by the 93 U.S. Attorneys and their staffs. Department of Justice attorneys working in the Antitrust, Civil, Civil Rights, Land and Natural Resources, and Tax Divisions conduct most of the litigation in their areas of responsibility. In addition to those organizations, attorneys are employed in other Department offices including, inter alia, the Office of Legal Policy, Office of Legislative Affairs, Office of Professional Responsibility, Justice Management Division, Immigration and Naturalization Service, U.S. Marshals Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, and U.S. Parole Commission.
