The New Zealand Victims Task Force, created by the Victims of Offences Act of 1987, has worked with court judges to oversee the act's implementation and associated policy development.
Abstract
The Task Force's report contains three parts, the first of which contains a list of recommendations and a brief history of the Victims of Offences Act and the Victims Task Force. The second part presents a report on the implementation of the Victims of Offences Act. This act specifies functions of the Victims Task Force and contains provisions relevant to service access, victim information, property return, and victim impact statements. The third part examines special topics and future considerations. Special topics include change management, attendance at court proceedings, the Children Young Persons & Their Families Act of 1989, compensation, crisis and response, data collection and research, police diversion of adults, the family court, concerns of the Maori and Pacific Island communities, and victim involvement at parole hearings. Sixteen appendixes provide additional information on crime victims and on victim compensation, advocacy, and needs.
