This report presents 1992 statistics on California inmate population movements for male and female correctional institutions.
Abstract
The data encompass arrivals, departures, and transfers by commitment type. During calendar year 1992, a total of 40,158 new felon admissions were received from the court, and 2,662 new civil narcotic addict admissions were received from court. A total of 2,470 county diagnostic cases were received, and 34,932 felon parole violators returned to custody; 17,939 felon parole violators returned with a new term from court. There were 656 escape returns to correctional institutions. A total of 2,904 outpatients were returned to custody to finish term or for a new civil commitment. There were 84,574 felon inmates released to parole and to temporary release status (50,911 were first releases to parole, and 33,663 were reparoled); 2,523 county diagnostic cases were discharged from correctional institutions and temporary release status. A total of 1,218 inmates escaped from correctional institutions and community correctional centers; 137 inmates died in correctional institutions.
