This paper presents statistics on arrests and indictments for New York State for 1992 compared to 1991.
Abstract
The total number of adult arrests in 1992 was 4 percent below the level reported in 1991. This marks the third consecutive year of declines since arrests peaked in 1989. Felony arrests dropped almost 6 percent, and misdemeanors were down by 3 percent; however, arrest declines were not experienced by all regions of the State. Significant increases in felony drug arrests were reported in regions that encompass the larger upstate metropolitan areas. The number of felony indictments (including superior court informations) dropped 3 percent between 1991 and 1992. This decline was primarily driven by fewer drug and nonviolent felony indictments in New York City. The Western, Central, and Southern tiers of the State experienced large increases in both drug and violent felony indictments. Percent changes are shown for arrests and indictments for January through December 1992 compared to 1991. Statistics on adult arrests by region are shown for 1992 and 1991, along with percentage of change for the two years. Trends in adult arrests are shown for 1983-1992; data are distinguished by felony and misdemeanor arrests. Arrests and indictments are presented by county, and indictments are indicated by region. A graph shows trends in felony indictments for 1983-92.
