Abstract
Research studies examined the structure and operation of the appellate courts and analyzed alternative approaches. Educational programs helped judges and court staff develop the management skills necessary to meet their workloads. In its efforts aimed at serving the district courts, the Center focused on civil justice reform, sentencing and supervision of offenders, and the handling of complex scientific evidentiary matters. Other activities served the special needs of bankruptcy courts, aided the Judicial Conference of the United States, and provided education programs and information resources to the judicial system as well as private organizations and individuals.
