Abstract
The articles in this issue of the newsletter deal with AIDS in New Zealand prisons, violent crime and community involvement from the perspective of the New York Police Commissioner, and the American juvenile justice system in 1992. Another paper discusses juvenile delinquency in Northern Ireland, noting that the legislature is preparing a new Children and Young Persons Act and stressing the need for a crime prevention strategic plan that involves education and youth services, social services, the police, the probation service, and community and voluntary groups. An English solicitor authored an article examining the treatment of juveniles in an adversarial criminal justice system. The final article deals with self-directed violence and the distinction between suicidal, malingering, and self-mutilating behaviors. Criminal justice developments around the Commonwealth are briefly noted.
