The Mansfield Police Department has 85 sworn and 40 nonsworn personnel employed at the command staff level and in the Patrol Bureau, Investigative Bureau, Special Operations Bureau, Internal Investigations, and Support Bureau. The Patrol Bureau has the largest contingent of police officers assigned to street operations. Primarily responsible for routine patrol and initial response to emergency situations, the Patrol Bureau has a K-9 unit and a traffic unit. The Investigative Bureau is a nonuniformed branch with primary responsibility for followup investigation of felony offenses. The Special Operations Bureau is responsible for special investigations, community policing, crime reduction, tactical operations, hostage negotiations, and drug abuse prevention. The Support Bureau includes records, crime lab, training, and auxiliary service sections. Statistical data are provided on crimes against persons (homicide, robbery, assault, and rape), crimes against property (burglary, larceny, arson, and auto theft), and traffic violations.
