Prior to SENTAC, sentencing involved either incarceration or probation. After SENTAC, sentencing now consists of a five-level continuum of punishment, with increasing degrees of supervision ranging from unsupervised probation at Level I to incarceration at Level V. Detailed statistical data are provided on the populations sentenced using SENTAC's Levels I-V. The data cover demographic characteristics of sentenced offenders, crime patterns, implementation of the SENTAC system by the judiciary, sentencing patterns by court of sentencing, special conditions assigned at sentencing, substance abuse, and the relation between number of convictions and crime severity. Attachments include a coding form for Level I-IV data collection, the file structure for Level V data, and a detailed table for sentenced offender demographics.
