This manual is intended to help Michigan police officers understand the traffic control process, specifically speed control, traffic control orders, parking control, and traffic preference.
Abstract
When police officers consider the traffic control process, they should understand that their primary contribution involves enforcement, experience, and perspective. State police officials should be intimately familiar with traffic control statutory references contained in the Michigan Vehicle Code, since these officials are responsible for making recommendations on reasonable and safe speed limits, parking restrictions, and traffic preference at intersections of State trunkline highways. The manual covers principles of speed control, traffic control orders establishing speed limits, principles of parking control, and traffic control orders establishing parking restrictions. The manual also deals with principles of traffic preference, traffic control orders establishing traffic preference, temporary traffic control orders, and the administration of traffic control orders. Sixteen appendixes provide detailed additional information on traffic control in Michigan.
