Individual articles describe ways to use field training personnel when the police agency is not hiring cadets due to budget limitations, suggest methods of avoiding burnout and maintaining the skills of field training officers, and explains how an agency newsletter served as a useful tool for improving report writing skills. Other papers provide an overview of the field training program in the New York City Transit Police, the country's largest transit police department; depict the procedures for transporting an arrestee from a department's holding cell to a county jail; and review a training videotape on courtroom skills and tactics. The survey received responses from 104 police agencies regarding the hours and types of training provided to field training officers, as well as these officers' compensation.
