The report also provides data concerning juvenile programs operated or licensed by the State Department of Youth Services. These programs include juvenile group homes, campuses, the Development and Information Center, HIT and CPS programs, the Interstate Compact on Juveniles, attention homes, detention centers, and day treatment programs. The data came mainly from official records of the juvenile courts. The analysis revealed that the juvenile courts disposed of 34,543 cases, compared to 26,886 in 1987. The rate of juvenile delinquency and CHINS offenses disposed per 100,000 population was 854.9 in 1991 and 640.8 in 1987. Since 1987, the percentage of youth detained overnight has declined from 17.4 percent to 15.0 percent. The number of dispositions handled with a court appearance increased during the same period.
