The Congress adopted 13 draft instruments and resolutions recommended for adoption by the United Nations General Assembly. They pertain to international cooperation for crime prevention and criminal justice in the context of development; United Nations work in crime prevention and criminal justice; computerization of criminal justice; minimum rules for noncustodial measures; principles for the treatment of inmates; guidelines for the prevention of juvenile delinquency; rules for the protection of detained juveniles; domestic violence; instrumental use of children in crime; and model treaties on extradition, mutual assistance in criminal matters, the transfer of criminal proceedings, and the transfer of supervision of offenders conditionally sentenced or conditionally released. Other instruments adopted by the Congress pertain to the prevention of crimes that infringe on the cultural heritage of peoples in the form of movable property, principles on the use of force and firearms by police, and principles on the role of lawyers. Thirty resolutions adopted by the Congress are presented to address a wide range of international criminal justice issues.
