Abstract
Part 1 reviews the crime trends and crime patterns in recent years, with attention to 1991. Data show trends in the number of Penal Code offenses reported and offenders cleared (1946-1991); the percentage of reported Penal Code offenses by offense (1991); percentage of Penal Code offenders cleared by the police, by offense (1991); number of special law offenders received by the Public Prosecutors Office (1990, 1991); trends in the total number of major crimes reported to the police (1981-90); crime rate and clearance rate of major crimes (1989, 1990); trend in the number of drug offenses cleared (1951-91); and offenses committed by mentally disturbed persons by category of mental disturbance (1987-91). Part 2 provides data on the management and treatment of adult offenders at the stages of prosecution, the court, corrections, and rehabilitation. Part 3 outlines the general trends in juvenile delinquency and the treatment of juvenile delinquents, and Part 4 focuses on females and crime. The latter section provides data on trends and characteristics of female crime, trends in female crime victims, the treatment of female offenders, characteristics of female offenders, female personnel in criminal justice, and female crime in other countries.
