The Uniform Crime Reports defines "forcible rape" as the "carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will. Assaults to commit forcible rape are also included; however, statutory rape (without force) is not counted in this category." In this report, except where noted, rape and attempted rape are combined for statistical purposes. In 1992, there were 988 rapes and attempted rapes in Arkansas reported through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Of these, 859 were rapes and 129 were attempted rapes. This was a 6- percent decrease from 1991 but is still 28 percent higher than 5 years ago and 60 percent higher than in 1982. When time of day was known, almost half of all rapes (45 percent) occurred during the 6-hour period between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. Approximately one-third of the rapes were committed on Friday or Saturday. More rapes occurred in July than in any other month. There were more white victims of rape than black victims in 1992 and 1991, and there were almost the same number of black and white victims in 1990. Forty-four percent of victims were younger than 18 years old. Data are also provided on weapons used to exert force upon victims, victim-offender race relationship, relationship of offender to victim, rapes involving family members, the location of actual rapes and attempted rapes, rape reporting time lapse, the number of offenders per rape, rape offender (suspects) characteristics, and medical attention for victims.
