The Onondaga County (New York) Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission administered this survey to students in 300 classrooms in Syracuse to gather information about drug and alcohol use among adolescents.
Abstract
The data obtained from the survey will be used by the Commission to work with schools and youth organizations to address alcohol and other drug abuse among young people. The survey questions cover frequency of drug and alcohol use, age of onset, means of procuring alcohol and illicit drugs, and social situations in which respondents use drugs or see peers using drugs. Other questions are intended to elicit information on peer pressure to use drugs, reasons for abstaining from drug and alcohol use, parental attitudes toward adolescent drug and alcohol use, and amount of time spent on school and other activities. Also information is sought about adolescents' current involvement in drug treatment-related activities and knowledge of community resources.
