This booklet provides guidelines to recovery for young people with alcohol and drug problems.
Abstract
Using young people's personal stories of drug abuse and trouble with the law, this book tells readers that they have the inner power to stop using drugs and alcohol. The first level of power is knowledge about alcohol and drugs and their potential effects; the power of recovery is grounded in the individual's belief that the consequences of drug use are bad, that action must be taken immediately, and that he or she can be helped. This book discusses counseling and treatment options available to adolescents, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, relapse prevention, problem-solving, and goal-setting as types of power available to young people recovering from substance abuse.
