Three videos describe early options for countering a potential attack, means to deter or repel an attack by an acquaintance, and practical measures of physical resistance.
Abstract
Volume 1, "Your Early Options," explores ways of avoiding or defusing potentially dangerous situations early. Topics discussed include distance, body language, and assertive verbal responses. The techniques portrayed pertain to how to look at someone without giving the person permission to speak to you, how to look strong even when you do not feel strong, and common ways attackers approach. Volume 2, "When an Acquaintance Becomes an Assailant," addresses the confusion and conflicting emotions associated with potentially threatening acquaintance situations. The instruction focuses on trusting one's feelings and acting early in uncomfortable circumstances as well as potentially dangerous encounters. Among other topics discussed are what to do when a friend or colleague makes an unwanted advance, how to recognize potential trouble with an acquaintance, and options to counter job-related harassment. Volume 3, "Practical Physical Resistance," presents a practical approach for using personal strengths against an attacker's weaknesses. The emphasis is not upon "winning" in a combative situation, but rather upon escaping from a dangerous person. Among the issues considered are when to use physical resistance, effective targets for physical resistance, and how to avoid panic. An instructional manual accompanies the videos.
