Research conducted by the AIC is intended to assist the police, the judiciary, corrections, business, and the wider community. Research has focused on violence prevention, drug control, occupational safety and health in police organizations, environmental regulation, the correctional system, and white collar crime. Other issues with which the AIC has been involved include gun control, police stress, terrorism, and the media and crime. The AIC also advises federal, state, and territory governments on the criminal justice system and crime prevention and works closely with the United Nations. The AIC organizes regular conferences and seminars to discuss such topics as homicide, local government and crime, private sector involvement in the criminal justice system, women and the law, and child witness testimony. The AIC's library and publications are described, and special programs are noted that concern violence prevention, aborigines, and homicide.
