This report presents statistical data describing changes in the prison populations in California correctional institutions, including admissions and departures from individual facilities, during calendar year 1992.
Abstract
During the year, 40,158 new felon arrivals and 2,662 civil drug addict admissions were received from court. In addition, 2,470 county diagnostic cases were received, and 34,932 felon parole violators returned to custody and returned pending revocation. Other arrivals included 17,939 parole violators returned with a new term from court, 496 escape returns, and 2,904 outpatients returned to custody to finish a term or with a new civil commitment. Departures included 84,574 felon inmates released to parole, 2,523 county diagnostic cases discharged, 137 inmate deaths, and 4,139 civil narcotic addicts released to outpatient status.
