During 1992, the California Department of Corrections (CDC) paroled 50,911 felons for the first time; the total mean time served in California State institutions was 21.0 months and the median time served was 15.6 months.
Abstract
The total mean time served, including time in custody prior to CDC incarceration, was 21.4 months for males and 17.1 months for females. The total mean time served for violent offenders was 33.0 months, with males serving 5.5 months longer than females. The total mean time served for property offenses was 17.9 months; for drug offenses, 18.6 months; and for all other offenses, 14.2 months. During the same year, 35,661 felon new admissions were paroled for the first time; the total mean time served in CDC prisons and in custody prior to CDC incarceration was 21.6 months. In 1992, 15,250 parole violators who were returned with a new term were paroled for the first time following their return to CDC for a new offense; the total mean time served in CDC prisons and prior to CDC incarceration was 19.9 months. 9 tables
